About Yunnan Normal University
Located in Kunming, which is known as “the City of Perennial Spring”, Yunnan Normal University (YNNU) is a provincial key university with a long and fine tradition that can be traced back to the Teachers College of the National Southwest Associated University established in 1938 that brought up such prestigious alumni as Nobel Prize winners Dr. Yang Zhenning and Dr. Li Zhengdao.
Yunnan Normal University has two campuses covering a total area of about 543 acres. It consists of 24 faculties, two independent colleges and more than 40 research institutes. It offers 94 bachelor’s programs, 7 doctoral programs, 130 master’s programs and, and 13 professional master’s programs. It has now over 33,000 full-time students and over 18,000 Continuing Education students.
As the English Teacher Training Center of Southwest China established by UNESCO, Yunnan Normal University is one of the two universities in Yunnan that is eligible to admit Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan students. The university has also established ties with more than 100 universities and research institutions in countries all over the world, such as the United States, Germany, Sweden, the UK, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam. Yunnan Normal University is now:
● One of the Bases for Chinese Language and Culture Education of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China.
● One of Hanban’s Teacher Training Bases for Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (Kunming).
● One of the Ministry of Education of China Demonstrative Bases for International Admission and Education.
As the institution that is responsible for the admission and education of international students of Yunnan Normal University, the School of International Chinese Studies (SICS) has achieved a rapid increase in international admission and enrollment, with an accumulative international enrollment of over 18,000 during the past ten years. More than 89 countries and regions all over the world are represented.
